China Central Television, or CCTV, recently aired a national report on the rise in the development of so-called future factories that are operating in the Linping district of Hangzhou, capital of East China's Zhejiang province.
Future factories are intelligent manufacturing plants that widely use new generation information technologies such as artificial intelligence and big data in their output and management.
Xio Lift Co Ltd's plant in Linping is a prime example. By applying digital twin technology, AI, 5G and other cutting-edge technologies, the company has established large-scale customized services and integrated the upstream and downstream of the industry supply chain.
The company's smart manufacturing is said to have increased production efficiency there by more than 50 percent, enabling the production of one elevator every two minutes.
Elsewhere, Robam Electric Appliance Co Ltd is among the first group of enterprises in Linping district to embark on a digital transformation and upgrade.
In Robam's factory, the production lines for kitchen appliances – including loading and unloading robots, as well as automated guided vehicles – have adopted intelligent computer-driven operations.
All the group's equipment operates automatically based on 5G+ industrial internet. A company spokesman said this has boosted production efficiency by 45 percent, shortened the product development cycle by 48 percent and reduced production costs by 21 percent.
These successful examples are said to point to the wider picture – with development of future factories becoming one of the main tasks of Zhejiang's digital reform and its development of a digital economy system.
