An ancient building that was left unused for many years in Wenzhou, East China's Zhejiang province, has been renovated into a calligraphy museum to showcase the charm of Chinese culture, local media reported.
Thanks to efforts by the local government, the building, located in the city's Zhongxiu garden in Longwan district, was built into a calligraphy museum in memory of Jiang Ligang, a renowned calligraphy export, born in Longwan in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644).
Officials from the district's bureau of culture, broadcasting, tourism and sports said that the calligraphy museum is dedicated to Jiang's spirit and his calligraphy art.
Jiang was famous at home and abroad for his calligraphy, and was very influential among people who like Chinese calligraphy in China and East and Southeast Asia. He left many calligraphy works for later generations. Jiang's regular script (Kai Shu) "Dongming Book" is a classic calligraphy book for learning regular script.
Covering an exhibition area of more than 300 square meters, the museum focuses on topics such as Jiang's life, artistic achievements, and influence, as well as other calligraphers in Wenzhou. Displayed with modern information technology, it has become an important art venue in Longwan.
Since it opened to the public, the museum has attracted many tourists, who can feel the charm of Chinese calligraphy while enjoying beautiful scenery in the garden.
