Key Highlights from the Roundtable Discussion at the 2023 ASEAN-China Media Forum

On October 23, the 2023 ASEAN-China Media Forum was held in Nanning, Guangxi. During the forum, the roundtable dialogue session was chaired by Zhang Lei, deputy director of Communication University of China. Industry guests shared cooperation cases and discussed the opportunities and challenges of the industry.

Chen Wenhao, director of Hunan Satellite TV's General Editing Office, emphasized the importance of "going global" of Chinese culture and the sharing of cultural experiences of programs such as "DIVAS Hit the Road" in countries along the Belt and Road Initiative. Xu Ying, senior director of market planning at Migu Video Technology Co., Ltd., emphasized the need to pinpoint user needs in overseas communication. He also shared Migu's exploration in products, such as bringing traditional Chinese operas to Belt and Road countries through live broadcasts.

Zhou Yu, general manager of SMG Pictures, called for the exploration of contemporary Chinese values in international communication. He stressed the importance of telling Chinese stories, attracting an online audience, and promoting effectively. Huang Haishan, executive deputy general manager of the Guangxi Radio and TV Network Corporation, pointed out that the key to facing challenges in international communication cooperation is respect and empathy, and it is essential to have a deep understanding of the cultural background of different countries.

Li Juan, deputy director of the International Communication Center of the Media Asset Management Department of the China Intercontinental Communication Center, shared the cooperation results under the Belt and Road Media Communication Alliance framework. She emphasized the need to delve into the stories of friendly cooperation between China and ASEAN countries in communication.

The ASEAN-China Media Forum, themed "Sharing New Achievements, Jointly Creating New Audio-visual Experiences, Building a Better Future Together", aims to promote the integrated development of the audio-visual industry across regions, fields, and formats. By sharing cooperation cases and experiences, it provides a platform for communication and cooperation, and discusses the collaborative innovation, development, and communication of the radio and television fields between China and ASEAN countries.
