Dongguan, a pioneer in opening up to the world, has cultivated economic ties with over 200 countries and regions, making it a dynamic open economy. With more than 13,000 foreign-funded enterprises and 86 Fortune 500 companies thriving in the city, it stands as a top investment destination.

Dongguan's advanced manufacturing system spans over 60,000 products across 34 categories, forming a robust industrial chain. Notably, three enterprises surpass 100 billion yuan ($13.97 billion) in revenue, and 25 exceed 10 billion yuan. With 80 listed enterprises, including 12 newcomers in 2022, Dongguan holds the top position in Guangdong province.

The city's strategic pillar industries, including new-generation electronic information, high-end equipment manufacturing, food and beverage, textiles, clothing, shoes, and hats, offer diverse opportunities. Notably, the new-generation electronic information sector, led by key players like Huawei and Oppo, achieved a remarkable output value of 947.02 billion yuan in 2022.

Dongguan's economic landscape is further enriched by five key emerging industries, namely, software and information services, new materials, new energy, biomedical & high-end medical devices, and semiconductors and integrated circuits, driving innovation and growth.

In 2022, Dongguan marked substantial economic achievements, surpassing a regional GDP of 1.12 trillion yuan and a per-capita regional GDP exceeding 100,000 yuan. The city boasts an impressive import-export volume of 1.39 trillion yuan and an industrial added value for enterprises above designated size of 526.74 billion yuan, demonstrating a robust economic performance.

The city's business-friendly environment has earned it such recognitions as "City Business Environment Innovation City" and the top position for the "Best government-business relationship of all prefecture-level cities in China". Additionally, the city earned the third spot on the list of "China’s Top 100 Foreign Trade Cities".

Amid the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, Dongguan strategically accelerates high-quality growth by prioritizing manufacturing and showcasing the city's distinctive strengths in sci-tech innovation and advanced manufacturing.
