The city recently held the 2023 Global Investment Conference with the theme "Dongguan links global investors with countless opportunities". Sub-conferences were concurrently held in Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Germany, and the United States.

Xiao Yafei, Party secretary of Dongguan, said that it was the strategic focus on investment attraction that propelled Dongguan's transformation from a traditional agricultural county into the 15th city nationwide to achieve the "Double Ten Thousand" goals—surpassing one trillion yuan in GDP and exceeding ten million in population.
