Northwest's first proton therapy cyclotron accelerator successfully installed
On June 18th, Xi'an International Medical Center Hospital held a ceremony for the installation of a proton therapy cyclotron accelerator within its premises, marking a significant milestone for the region.
The installed cyclotron accelerator is a core and crucial component of the proton therapy system, signifying the commencement of the precise installation, debugging, and acceptance phase of the proton therapy system. This event heralds a new chapter in oncology diagnosis and treatment in the Northwest region.

During the inauguration ceremony, President of Xi'an International Medical Center Hospital Yin Qiang expressed that the hospital will take this installation ceremony as an opportunity to safeguard the lives and health of the public.
Lu Huayong, the secretary of the Party Committee and chairman of the Board of Directors of the China State Construction Engineering Corporation Northwest Company, stated that the installation of the cyclotron accelerator marks a comprehensive entry into the equipment installation phase of the project, taking a crucial step towards high-quality delivery.
The installed system is the latest generation ProBeam360° proton therapy system from Varian Medical Systems, offering Intensity Modulated Proton Therapy (IMPT) with cutting-edge features like a superconducting cyclotron, a 360-degree rotating gantry, and high-speed pencil beam scanning technology.
Proton therapy, also known as proton radiation therapy, boasts three major advantages: high precision, minimal side effects, and strong destructive power. Unlike traditional radiation therapy, proton therapy precisely targets tumor cells, minimizing damage to surrounding healthy tissues and organs.
As a "key project" in the field of proton therapy in the Northwest region, Xi'an International Medical Center Hospital will leverage its expert talent pool and advanced international medical equipment to rapidly enhance the level of oncology diagnosis and treatment in Shaanxi and the broader Northwest region, safeguarding the health and lives of the public.
