Baijusi Yangtze River Bridge, a miracle of engineering and design
The Baijusi Yangtze River Bridge
On the Yangtze River between Banan district and Dadukou district in Chongqing municipality, a double tower public rail dual-use cable-stayed bridge comes into view. Its two bridge towers are shaped like giant water droplets, standing tall in the rolling waves of the river. It is the Baijusi Yangtze River Bridge.
In early 2024, the Baijusi Yangtze River Bridge, constructed by China Communications Construction Company's Second Harbor Engineering Company, unexpectedly became popular as the "Chongqing version of Interstellar".
This project is a controlling node of Chongqing's "Seven Horizontal Lines" crossing the Yangtze River, directly connecting Dadukou and Banan districts, with a total length of about 3.7 kilometers. The main bridge across the river is 1,384 meters long, making it the world's largest cable-stayed bridge with a dual-use of public and rail steel truss beams.

The bridge tower is designed in the shape of a "water droplet", reflecting the regional culture of Chongqing, which was "born, prospered and made beautiful by water", as well as the fighting spirit of the Chongqing people, which is "water dripping through stones, persevering".
The bottom of the bridge tower is designed as a transparent circular shape. People can see the scenery and urban architecture on both sides through the bottom of the bridge tower, like the "eye of time" witnessing the development of Chongqing.
The cars driving on the bridge, the light rail shuttling under the bridge, and the colorful and dazzling lights at night, as well as the water droplet shaped bridge tower, are highly technological and have become a dazzling presence in Chongqing。
Since the opening of the Baijusi Yangtze River Bridge, driving time from Banan to Dadukou can be shortened to 10 minutes at the fastest, effectively improving the travel conditions of citizens. At the same time, the expressway and rail transit networks in Chongqing have been improved, promoting economic development along the line and in the region.
In addition, the bridge has also effectively driven consumption growth as it became a popular destination. During the Spring Festival of 2024, the passenger flow of key commercial circles in Banan has significantly increased. The bridge has attracted more than 900,000 tourists, driving tourism revenue of over 270 million yuan ($37.33 million).
