Xiangxi Miao embroidery, originating in Xiangxi Tujia and Miao autonomous prefecture in Central China's Hunan province, is a beautiful craft that vividly showcases the culture and history of the Miao people. It is like a silent history book, recording the migrations and lives of the Miao people.
The patterns of Miao embroidery incorporate elements such as geometric shapes, flowers, and animals, all of which carry symbolic meaning and embody the Miao people's beliefs and aspirations. With over a dozen stitching techniques, Miao embroidery enriches the depth of its works and adds a three-dimensional quality. At the same time, the use of bold, vibrant colors makes it visually striking.
Miao embroidery has become an important symbol of Miao culture and has helped spur rural vitalization. In Xiangxi, local embroiderers have collaborated with cooperatives to push Miao embroidery products in both domestic and international markets, bringing in more money for local farmers.
