When traveling on the Zhanggao Ferry in the lower reaches of the Yangtze River, many people will be attracted by the "gate" shaped and "H" shaped architectural structures.

They are the only main tower and its auxiliary towers of the Zhangjinggao Yangtze River Bridge. Growing higher day by day, they illustrate the framework of the world's largest suspension bridge.

The Zhangjinggao Yangtze River Bridge will connect the three cities of Zhangjiagang in Suzhou, Jingjiang in Taizhou and Rugao in Nantong in Jiangsu province, and it is expected to be completed and open to traffic by 2028.

With a river-spanning length of 7,900 meters, the bridge will contain approach bridges and navigation sections for the north and south, with two-way eight traffic lanes and a designed speed of up to 100 kilometers per hour. The south navigation bridge, with a span of 2,300 meters, will be the world's largest span suspension bridge, marking a milestone in Chinese bridge construction history with a 2,000-meter-long span barrier.

The south navigation bridge will set six world records: the world's largest span suspension bridge, the tallest suspension bridge tower, the longest high-strength main cable, the largest composite ground anchor foundation, the longest continuous length steel box girder, and the largest displacement telescopic device. It will achieve six "world firsts" in structural systems: a self-balancing structure system for the main cable of an extra-large span suspension bridge, a super-high steel box-steel tube-concrete composite tower structure on the tower, a super-large-scale support transformation structure composite ground anchor foundation on the anchor foundation, a super-large self-assembly prefabricated saddle on the saddle structure, an intelligent sensing replaceable anchoring system in the anchoring system, and an integrated intelligent anti-corrosion system for the entire bridge in the application of anti-corrosion technology.

After completion of the Zhangjinggao Yangtze River Bridge, it will connect three important cities in the central and southern parts of Jiangsu province, serving as a pivot for deepening regional cooperation and cross-river integration. As a 'bridge of technology' and 'bridge of innovation,' the Zhangjinggao Yangtze River Bridge has made breakthroughs in new structures and new technologies, filling multiple domestic and international technological gaps, showcasing 'Made in China' and 'Created in China' brands on a global scale, greatly enhancing the global influence of Chinese bridge brands.

As a key project of the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) period, workers are committed to building a landmark project for Jiangsu, a representative project for China's bridge technology innovation, and a milestone project for the construction of a super-large span suspension bridge. It will promote exchanges between northern, central and southern parts of Jiangsu, and become an important passage in Nantong's transport layout.

The construction of the Zhangjinggao Yangtze River Bridge will fully demonstrate the innovative achievements of continuous exploration and breakthroughs in bridge construction in China in the new era. The builders of the bridge will uphold the new mission of building China into a transportation power, benchmarking modern construction with high standards and requirements, creating new demonstration and benchmark projects of quality engineering, striving to achieve world-class and domestic leading goals, and turning the bridge into a landmark project for building the country into a transportation power, a representative project leading China's bridge technology innovation, and a milestone project for the construction of a super-large span suspension bridge, making new contributions to accelerating the construction of a modern transportation demonstration zone and writing a new chapter in Jiangsu's modernization push.
