Once a beloved cultural treasure, Changsha Huagu Opera has faced a decline as its audience aged. However, in recent years, the Changsha Huagu Opera Protection and Inheritance Center has breathed new life into this traditional art form through innovation.

Modern productions merge the distinctive elements of Huagu Opera with contemporary music genres like rock, jazz, and rap, creating a dynamic fusion of traditional and western instruments. These performances preserve the opera's essence and tell captivating stories about social progress and rural vitalization.

The rise of short videos and live streaming has played a pivotal role in reintroducing Huagu Opera to younger audiences. Chen Yuqing, a "post-95" actress from the center, has been at the forefront of this digital revolution. Through live streaming and creative reinterpretations, she presents Huagu Opera in a fresh, modern style that captures viewers' attention and reignites interest in this rich cultural heritage. Her innovative approach has brought new energy to the art form.

Since its debut in 2022, the official "Changsha Huagu Opera" live-streaming account has gained immense popularity. Its first broadcast attracted over 3.5 million viewers, far exceeding the audience of previous live performances.

Live streaming is a key platform for the opera's continued growth. Chen Yuqing hopes this revitalized form of Huagu Opera will inspire more people to develop a deeper appreciation for Changsha's cultural legacy and make the city their home.
