Beijing-Xiong'an Intercity Railway boots development of Xiong'an New Area
The Beijing Daxing International Airport-Xiong'an New Area section of the Beijing-Xiong'an Intercity Railway formally opened to public service on December 27, 2020, marking full operation of the Beijing-Xiong'an Intercity Railway project undertaken by the CCCC Second Harbour Engineering Company.
Passengers can take high-speed trains from Beijing West Railway Station directly to Hebei's Xiong'an New Area with the shortest commuting time at 50 minutes. The journey between Beijing Daxing International Airport and Xiong'an is about 19 minutes by high speed train.
Beijing-Xiong'an Intercity Railway is a major transportation channel linking the capital city with Xiong'an New Area and is the first important transportation infrastructure project built in Xiong'an New Area. The intercity project is 91 kilometers long and has a maximum design speed of 350 kilometers per hour.
The Beijing West Railway Station-Beijing Daxing International Airport section of the Beijing-Xiong'an Intercity Railway came into operation on September 26, 2019. The newly-opened Beijing Daxing International Airport-Xiong'an New Area section is about 59 kilometers long, with four stations of Beijing Daxing International Airport, Hebei's Gu'an, Bazhou and Xiong'an.
With a total length of 7.9 kilometers, the No.3 section of the Beijing-Xiong'an Intercity Railway was constructed by the CCCC Second Harbour Engineering Company. It started from the capital city's Daxing district and finished in Gu'an and passed Tiantang and Yongding rivers.
The No.2 tunnel project of Beijing Daxing International Airport is a vital part of the Beijing-Xiong'an Intercity Railway, setting a domestic record for the longest open-cut tunnel.
Since February 28, 2018, the construction team of the CCCC Second Harbour Engineering Company had to overcome such difficulties as flood prevention and control, smog and strong gales. Additionally, they were expected to complete the construction of the No.3 section of the Beijing-Xiong'an Intercity Railway in 11 months, using 970,000 cubic meters of concrete and 130,000 tons of rebar.
Therefore, the CCCC Second Harbour Engineering Company dispatched nearly 4,000 more construction workers and 31 construction vehicles to the construction sites to ensure the completion of relevant tasks ahead of the deadline.
During the construction process, the CCCC Second Harbour Engineering Company made full use of digital technologies, whole-process information management models and intelligent supervision among others to guarantee the high-standard and high-quality construction.
The CCCC Second Harbour Engineering Company also balanced its COVID-19 pandemic response efforts and the construction tasks.
Moreover, the CCCC Second Harbour Engineering Company's construction team came up with advanced tunnel construction techniques and fully leveraged digital and intelligent construction machinery to finish the open-cut tunnel project with world-class standards.
In January 2024, the No.3 section project of the Beijing-Xiong'an Intercity Railway won the CCCC Second Harbour Engineering Company the second group of the 20th National Civil Engineering Zhan Tianyou Award, the highest scientific and technological innovation award in China's civil engineering sector.
The full operation of the Beijing-Xiong'an Intercity Railway project has fundamentally facilitated the integration of Xiong'an New Area with Beijing, Tianjin and Shijiazhuang cities, shortened the travel time between them, further optimized transportation layout in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, accelerated the building of a fast and three-dimensional transportation system and specialty industrial clusters, advanced economic integration and the integrated development of the three regions, and exercised positive impacts upon the construction of Xiong'an New Area.
