Longwan district was established as a key part of Wenzhou's reform and opening up efforts on Dec 27, 1984. Initially, Longwan had a land area of just 61.43 square kilometers and a population of less than 80,000. With a landscape of river networks and no urban center, it was ripe for a transformation.
By 2002, construction was accelerated on Longwan's urban center. The area's rapid growth saw the rise of numerous projects that reshaped its urban landscape.
In 2021, Longwan launched its "One Urban District, Five Cities" plan, encompassing a future urban district and five specialized cities focusing on innovation, industry, and openness.
The establishment of the Wenzhou Bay New Area in 2023 further integrated key development platforms.
Over the past 40 years, Longwan has evolved from an underdeveloped area into a modern, vibrant district. Its focus on high-tech industries, sustainable development, and urbanization has driven significant economic and social progress.
Today, Longwan is advancing with a focus on innovation, quality education, and cultural enrichment. It has become a thriving hub of activity and growth in eastern Wenzhou, known for its industrial strength, modern infrastructure, and enhanced living standards.
Longwan's journey to becoming a bustling, prosperous region is a testament to the enduring spirit of its people.
