The Hangzhou-Huangshan high-speed railway

The Hangzhou-Huangshan high-speed railway opened to the public at the end of 2018.

With a design speed of 250 kilometers per hour, the high-speed railway project is about 265 kilometers long. It starts from Hangzhou, capital city of East China's Zhejiang province, and ends in Huangshan city in East China's Anhui province.

It has linked seven 5A-class scenic spots, which include West Lake, Xixi Wetland, Qiandao Lake and Mount Huang, and over 50 4A-class scenic spots along the line. The access to such a large number of popular travel destinations has earned it the fame of the world-class golden tourism route.

Construction of the high-speed railway project has fully followed the principle of ecological conservation, promoted rational land reclamation and greening, and achieved the goals of having green plants in the whole year and blossoming flowers in three seasons and combining trees and shrubs together.

The CCCC Second Harbor Engineering Company undertook the construction of five sections of the high-speed railway project, which is about 34 kilometers long and has a bridge-to-tunnel ratio of 81 percent.

During construction, builders developed such equipment as single main beam and foldable rear-leg bridge erecting machine, set a new national record for erecting beams at ultra-short distances from tunnel entrances, and became the first one in Zhejiang to complete the box girder erection task along the entire line.

Since the participation in national credit evaluation assessments in the first half of 2015, the construction team of the CCCC Second Harbor Engineering Company has secured the top place for three times and the second place for four times. Additionally, it has earned high recognition from the high-speed railway company and received dozens of awards and honorable titles for groups and individuals for their pragmatic work style and remarkable achievements.

In addition, the integration between railway station and city is another major highlight of the high-speed railway project. The construction personnel extensively incorporated the elements of Hui culture, Wu-Yue culture, historical imprints, cultural heritage and distinctive characteristics of the new era. One of the most representative features is the various major stations along the route. For instance, there is a huge mural of Huang Gongwang's "Dwelling in the Fuchun Mountains" at Fuyang Station. At Tonglu Station, the urban features of half mountain and half water are integrated into the design concept, showcasing the charm of the Fuchun River and Daqi Mountains. At Qiandao Lake Station, modern garden design surrounds the station with mountains and winding streams. Sanyang Station combines the style of Hui-style dwellings with modern architecture.

The high-speed railway traverses Zhejiang and Anhui provinces and is an extension of the Yangtze River Delta intercity railway network. Its opening has brought an end to the history of no high-speed rail access in western Zhejiang, and combined such high-speed rail networks as the Hefei-Fuzhou, Shanghai-Hangzhou, Hangzhou-Ningbo and Nanjing-Hangzhou lines.

This high-speed railway is of significant importance to further improve the travel experience of local residents, optimize the layout of regional rapid transportation networks, integrate tourism resources, and promote coordinated regional economic development.

It now takes an hour and half for people to travel from West Lake to Mount Huang. Travelers departing from Wuhan can reach Mount Huang and Qiandao Lake in just four hours, while those departing from Shanghai, Ningbo and Nanjing can arrive at their destinations in about two hours.
