Xi'an: A thriving hub for high-tech industries
Xi'an has emerged as a hub for cutting-edge industries in recent years, with technological advancements flourishing across multiple sectors. High-tech enterprises are integrating their innovations into urban development, fueling Xi'an's high-quality development.
Shaanxi Orca Electronic Intelligent Technology Co, founded in 2017 in Xi'an High-Tech Industries Development Zone (XHTZ), is one of Xi'an's standout innovation ecosystem companies. Specializing in unmanned surface vehicles and smart water equipment and offering industry-leading autonomous sanitation vessels and intelligent passenger boats, it has created China's first EU CE-certified unmanned environmental protection boat.
With over 50 patents, its products have been deployed in 10 countries, including the United States and the Netherlands, and serve over 100 well-known water bodies.

Another key player is Xi'an JD Energy Co, also located in XHTZ. This leading innovator in energy storage solutions launched its distributed energy storage system in 2020, redefining industry standards. The company boasts a team of 200 experts and has secured over 110 patents, completing large-scale commercial deployments.

XHTZ has rapidly developed into a stronghold for high-tech enterprises and is now home to over 6,000 high-tech firms and 6,000 technology-based small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). It has nurtured 17 new national-level little giant enterprises, bringing the total to 76, and 151 new provincial-level specialized and innovative SMEs, totaling 566.
In 2024, XHTZ's total value of technology contract transactions reached 185 billion yuan ($25.54 billion), reflecting a 19 percent year-on-year growth. In terms of per capita technology contract transaction value, XHTZ ranks second among all high-tech zones in China.
The Norinco Group (Xi'an) Hi-Tech Industry Base's Advanced Concept Verification Center is bridging the gap between research and commercialization in the Xi'an Economic and Technological Development Zone. It focuses on photonics, AI, and brain-computer interfaces, accelerating technology transfer and industrialization.

In 2024, the Xi'an Economic and Technological Development Zone added 21 municipal-level innovation platforms and 33 provincial-level gazelle enterprises, maintained 1,200 valid high-tech enterprises, and registered 1,967 technology-based SMEs.
The rapid growth of these technology enterprises has significantly enhanced Xi'an's technological innovation capacity and provided continuous and strong momentum for regional economic development.
