Xi'an area of Shaanxi FTZ achieves remarkable results
Information office of Xi'an municipal government held a news conference on April 3 to mark the 8th anniversary of the construction of Xi'an area of the China (Shaanxi) Pilot Free Trade Zone (FTZ).
As a benchmark for inland free trade zones, Xi'an area of the Shaanxi FTZ has accumulated 751 institutional innovation cases, of which 40 have been promoted at the national level. Its institutional innovation index have ranked 5th among inland areas in China.
Core indicators such as the operating volume and freight volume of the China-Europe Railway Express have ranked first in the country for seven consecutive years, becoming the core engine driving inland opening-up.
Li Qungang, second-level inspector of the Xi'an municipal bureau of commerce, stated that Xi'an area has formed more than 10 innovative measures pioneered nationwide. In 2024, Xi'an area's institutional innovation index ranked 16th among 57 free trade zones in China.
Xi'an area's focus on developing new quality productive forces has attracted several national laboratories and large scientific devices, showing a strong scientific innovation strength. Six major pillar industries, including the new energy vehicle industry, have formed clusters. In 2024, Xi'an area's import and export value exceeded 310 billion yuan ($42.43 billion), accounting for nearly 70 percent of Shaanxi province's total during the same period.
Xi'an area has over 230,000 newly established business entities and more than 1,100 foreign-invested enterprises. The number of newly established entities is 9.5 times that of before the free trade zone's establishment, with an average annual growth rate of over 60 percent.
