Xi'an promotes high-quality development
In 2024, Xi'an made outstanding achievements in the economy, innovation, and urban construction.
Xi'an's GDP increased by 4.6 percent, exceeding 1.3 trillion yuan ($178.4 billion). The city completed 536.09 billion yuan of fixed asset investments. The added value of industrial enterprises above the designated size – those with annual revenue of more than 20 million yuan, increased by 6.5 percent compared to the previous year. Retail sales of consumer goods reached 491.51 billion yuan, and the general public budget revenue reached 100.24 billion yuan.
Xi'an established and restructured eight national key laboratories. The number of high-tech and technology-based small and medium-sized enterprises increased significantly, with a technology contract turnover of 450 billion yuan. R&D investment intensity reached 5.56 percent, ranking 18th in the global innovation index.
The city's transportation infrastructure continued to improve, with the completion of Xi'an Xianyang International Airport's Terminal 5 and the opening of four metro lines.
The China-Europe freight train (Xi'an) led the country in terms of operating volume, freight volume, and heavy container rate. The city increased international air routes and saw increases in total import and export value and foreign investment.
Residents' well-being also improved, with increased urban employment, expanded educational resources, and the solution to the water shortage problem affecting over 250,000 people.
Xi'an's primary targets for 2025 include creating 180,000 new urban jobs, a GDP growth of around 5.5 percent, a 5 percent increase in retail sales of consumer goods, and a 6.5 percent increase in the added value of industrial enterprises above the designated size.
Other development goals include expanding reform and opening up, promoting transformational development, optimizing resource utilization, enhancing the urban level, improving traffic management, promoting the integration of culture and tourism, and focusing on people's well-being.
