Quzhou, Zhejiang: Medium-Voltage Power Generation Vehicles with "Dual-Machine Parallel Connection" Upgrade Power Distribution Network Maintenance without Power Outages
On June 14, at the maintenance site of the 10 kV Shimen 4363 line in Quzhou, Zhejiang, the State Grid Quzhou Power Supply Company employed "parallel synchronous" technology using multiple medium-voltage emergency power generation vehicles for the first time. This innovative approach allowed for comprehensive power distribution network maintenance without power outages, providing a "zero flicker" experience for electricity users even under complex conditions.

At the site, two prominent 1,000-kilowatt yellow medium-voltage emergency power generation vehicles were stationed along the street. Vibrant, flexible cables extended from these vehicles, precisely connecting to the 10 kV poles via specially designed grid connection ports. The generators hummed steadily, delivering continuous electricity to the town's power grid. Power supply personnel closely monitored the generator's operating parameters and ensured public safety, while maintenance crews efficiently conducted pole erection and line laying operations. The entire process was orderly and uninterrupted, with no impact on the users' electricity experience.
The 10 kV Shimen 4363 line in Jiangshan, operational for several years, urgently required upgrades due to equipment aging and increased electricity demand driven by local economic growth. However, some loads in Shimen town were difficult to transfer, and the planned power outage would exceed 10 hours, coinciding with peak summer electricity consumption. The challenge was ensuring a maximum load of 1,500 kilowatts, surpassing the capacity of a single medium-voltage power generation vehicle.
To address this, the State Grid Quzhou Power Supply Company implemented an innovative "parallel operation" solution using two medium-voltage emergency power generation vehicles. This approach not only aggregated power but also enhanced reliability and stability. Over a 12-hour period, the "dual-vehicle parallel" system generated a total of 10,148 kilowatt-hours of electricity, seamlessly bridging the load gap and ensuring uninterrupted power for residents.
Xia Jiasheng from the Distribution Network Department of State Grid Quzhou Power Supply Company said, "A single power generation vehicle has limited capacity and struggles with voltage fluctuations during large load transfers.
"Parallel operation of two vehicles combines power units like 'building blocks' into a robust power matrix, transforming 'scattered backup' into 'integrated operation.'"

This operation exemplifies precise cross-specialty collaboration, marking a milestone in Quzhou's power distribution network maintenance capabilities without power outages. From low-voltage single-area load-side power generation to medium-voltage multi-unit parallel power supply, and from planned outages to unnoticed network transformations, the State Grid Quzhou Power Supply Company is advancing power supply services through technological innovation.
The State Grid Quzhou Power Supply Company plans to enhance the development of devices supporting power distribution network maintenance without outages, optimize power supply processes, strengthen professional team building, and establish a standardized "Quzhou Solution" for maintenance.
The aim is to achieve "zero power outages during maintenance, zero load loss, and zero user perception" under more complex scenarios and stringent conditions.
