Ningxia wins seven awards at Northwest China cultural heritage conservation skills competition
From May 21 to 23, the Northwest China cultural heritage conservation craftsmen skills competition and the first provincial vocational skills competition for the cultural heritage sector in Gansu province were held in Lanzhou, capital of Gansu province.
A delegation of 13 contestants from Northwest China’s Ningxia Hui autonomous region delivered an impressive performance, winning seven awards in total, including one first prize, two second prizes and four third prizes. The results highlighted Ningxia’s strong professional capabilities and craftsmanship in the conservation and restoration of cultural relics.
Guided by China’s National Cultural Heritage Administration, the competition brought together more than 100 skilled professionals in cultural relic restoration from Gansu, Qinghai, Ningxia and Xinjiang.
The competition featured multiple categories, including restoration of wooden artifacts, masonry cultural relics, ceramics, metal artifacts, paper-based relics and paintings, as well as archaeological surveying. Contestants were assessed on both theoretical knowledge and hands-on technical skills.
An official with the Ningxia Cultural Heritage Administration said the region will continue strengthening the cultivation of cultural heritage conservation and restoration professionals to contribute further to the cultural heritage preservation efforts in Ningxia and across China.
