Guyuan in the Northwest China's Ningxia Hui autonomous region has seen a surge in exports in the first half of this year thanks to the development of specialty industries such as cool vegetables and potato products.

The city achieved a total foreign trade value of 199 million yuan ($27.7 million) from January to June, a year-on-year increase of 50.24 percent. This growth rate leads the entire region and lays a solid foundation for strong foreign trade growth this year.

The city adheres to a strategy of "tailored policies for enterprises", promoting the development of specialty industries. Focusing on the industry chain advantages of Snow Valley Food, the city has leveraged the benefits of the RCEP agreement to help the company promote deep-processed products such as frozen french fries and potato cakes in overseas markets. The export value has reached 134 million yuan, a 54.6 percent increase year-on-year, accounting for 70 percent of the city's foreign trade exports.

The city has also created innovative models such as "comprehensive foreign trade services + industry incubation", a green customs clearance mechanism, and a government-bank-insurance platform to help local enterprises boost exports of vegetables, transforming them from local specialties to international goods.

The export markets cover 29 countries and regions, led by ASEAN which accounts for 43.5 percent of the total. Exports to Hong Kong Special Administrative Region reached 45 million yuan, a 45.8-fold increase year-on-year.
