Wheat straw art, a distinctive form of folk artistry in Xiaogan, Hubei province, transforms simple stalks of wheat into exquisite creations through a meticulous and detailed process.

The journey of creating wheat straw art begins with artisans preparing the straw. This involves several stages, including smoking, steaming, bleaching, scraping, pressing, ironing, cutting, carving, weaving, and painting.

The dynamic black and white contrasts, as well as the subtle shading, are achieved using a heated electric iron. Various shapes and figures are then brought to life through precise cutting and pasting techniques.

One of the most remarkable aspects of wheat straw artworks is their longevity. These pieces can endure for thousands of years without fading or deteriorating, making them both aesthetically pleasing and highly collectible.
