The drama, originally produced by the Shenzhen Opera & Dance Theatre, will run for 20 performances, concluding on Jan 4, 2026.

Having previously toured in countries and regions including Singapore, the United Kingdom, and France, the show has set a record for the most performances by a Chinese original dance drama abroad, garnering both box office success and critical acclaim. The upcoming Toronto performance will celebrate the 300th milestone in its global tour.

Following a dual narrative that intertwines the legendary story of martial arts master Ip Man with the making of a film about his life, the show boasts a unique aesthetic that captivates martial arts and dance enthusiasts both domestically and internationally.

TO Live, ADEM Company Inc, and Canada China Cultural Development Association will jointly present the North American premiere of the dance drama.

"To Live is thrilled to present Wing Chun Dance Drama this holiday season as part of our year-round dance series. lt's a spectacular production that families can enjoy together – full of beauty and incredible energy, with masterful storytelling and choreography," said Clyde Wagner, president and CEO of TO Live, in a press conference in mid-November in North York.

"When l first experienced Wing Chun Dance Drama in China, l was amazed by its artistry and the way it blends martial arts and dance into something truly unforgettable," he noted.

The Guardian newspaper praised its "smart staging, sleek designs, awesome revolving sets, tricks of the light, a pulse-quickening soundtrack, uplifting storytainment, and above all exceptional dance, acrobatics and martial arts" when the show was staged at Sadler's Wells theater in London last September.

On Dec 7, the Consulate General of China in Toronto highlighted the production during the "Happy Chinese New Year" Series Events, introducing it to local group representatives and community leaders.

The Shenzhen Dance and Theatre Company expressed great anticipation that their performance in Canada will be well-received by Canadian audiences.
