German auto suppliers deepen cooperation with Hunan
The China-Germany Automobile Association annual meeting opened in Changsha, Hunan province, on June 5, drawing a delegation of global automotive leaders including Schaeffler, Bosch and Webasto for three days.
Hunan's automotive cluster is a key draw. In 2025, the province produced 1.63 million vehicles, up 30.7 percent, and hosted 17 complete vehicle makers and nearly 500 major parts suppliers. Its lithium battery cathode material capacity ranks first nationwide, and it holds all five national licenses for intelligent connected vehicles. The province also has a strong talent pool, with 147 universities and 49 academicians.

"Coming to Changsha is the most correct choice," said Sun Guozhong, president of SEG Automotive China. Changsha plant delivered its 100 millionth motor this year and started robot motor production. Dr. Zhang Yilin, CEO of Schaeffler Group China, said Hunan's auto supply chain and educational resources offer unique advantages for absorbing German technology.
Hunan proposed tripartite cooperation among industrial, supply and innovation chains. As German auto giants expand research, production and sales in Hunan, the partnership is moving toward deeper integration.
