Since Xi'an launched a grid improvement campaign in 2021, the city has continued to expand and upgrade its transmission and distribution networks. Its maximum power load reached 14.42 million kilowatts in 2026, up more than 5 million kW from 2021, while overall supply capacity remains sufficient.
A key project is the 330-kilovolt Zhuque substation in the city's southern area. Put into operation in May 2025, the semi-underground facility is China's first substation integrated with a cultural heritage display. Equipped with two 500,000-kVA transformers, it serves nearly 1 million residents and more than 1,000 businesses.
The company has also upgraded power supplies at nursing homes. At a home in Gaoling district, a dual-power system enables automatic switching within seconds if the main supply fails, ensuring uninterrupted power for lighting, medical care, and cold storage.
Meanwhile, a smart-grid demonstration zone in Xi'an Chanba International Port uses digital terminals and dual-mode communications to detect low-voltage faults within three minutes.
