Yulin, a major energy hub in Shaanxi province, is strengthening its power grid to improve electricity transmission, support industrial growth, and promote rural revitalization.

During the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25), the city brought five 330-kilovolt substations into operation, expanded eight others, and added 7.38 million kilovolt-amperes of substation capacity. It also built 568 kilometers of 330-kV transmission lines to meet the growing power needs of local industries.

Yulin has also expanded its capacity to transmit electricity to other regions. Its north-to-south power transmission capacity reached 6.05 million kilowatts, while its total outbound transmission capacity rose to 19.56 million kW. Dingbian county, a major renewable energy base, now has more than 6.5 million kW of installed renewable energy capacity and supplies nearly 10 billion kilowatt-hours of green electricity annually.

To further strengthen the grid, construction is advancing on a third 750-kV transmission channel between northern Shaanxi and the Guanzhong region, as well as an ultra-high-voltage direct-current transmission project linking Shaanxi and Henan provinces.

Grid upgrades are also benefiting rural communities. In spring 2025, the city upgraded power lines and transformers to meet irrigation needs across 10.9 million mu (about 727,000 hectares) of farmland. An upgraded distribution network has also enabled a 13-MW community solar power station in Dingbian to feed all its generated electricity into the grid, increasing collective income for 65 villages by 7 million yuan.
