Liuwudian Navigation Channel Bridge on Xiamen-Jinmen Bridge achieves closure
The Liuwudian Navigation Channel Bridge on the Xiamen section of the Xiamen-Jinmen Bridge, constructed by CCCC Second Harbor Engineering Co, completed the closure on Sept 24.
The Xiamen section of the Xiamen-Jinmen Bridge runs approximately 19.6 kilometers, starting at the intersection of Huandao East Road and Huizhan North Road in Xiamen and ending at Xiamen Xiang'an International Airport.
As a critical control structure, the Liuwudian Navigation Channel Bridge spans 1,948 meters with a 928-meter main span. Its deck consists of 126 streamlined flat steel box girders, including 122 standard segments and four large side-span segments, weighing about 53,000 metric tons. The deck sits roughly 70 meters above the sea, and its navigation opening accommodates 200,000-ton cargo vessels.
The bridge's steel girder segments are prefabricated in factories to match the designed alignment. During hoisting, self-developed stress sensors installed on key parts of the cable-stayed hoists collect real-time force, girder attitude, and equipment data for visual monitoring and intelligent alerts, while the team tracks wind, tide, and sea conditions to select suitable construction windows.
