Workers cultivate vegetable garden at Serbia project camp
Staff members at an overseas construction camp in Nis, Serbia, transformed an overgrown, rubble-strewn vacant lot into a vegetable garden.
They repurposed discarded blue plastic buckets for fencing and prepared the soil, sowed seeds, and maintained the plot after work hours. They grew cucumbers, tomatoes, peppers, melons, and chives, which thrived under ample local sunlight. They also built a simple shelter for stray cats nearby, and the site became a common rest area for camp personnel.
The garden also serves as an informal meeting spot, where team members discuss construction plans.
This summer, the plot yielded fresh produce, and workers celebrated by making dumplings with the newly picked chives. The garden now offers a relaxing space for expatriate staff members and boosts on-site living standards. While delivering infrastructure works, the team has created amenities for daily life at the remote camp.
