World-first tech product makes clinical debut
The world's first implantation of the DiamondSoft cross-linked polyisobutylene (xPIB) aspheric intraocular lens (IOL), led by Professor Wang Congyi, a renowned domestic cataract specialist, was performed at Dali Zeming Eye Hospital in Weinan, Shaanxi province, on Oct 20.

This innovative intraocular lens, developed and manufactured by Xi'an Eyedeal Medical Technology Co, an enterprise based in the Xi'an Hi-tech Industries Development Zone, boasts world‑leading technical performance. Its clinical application marks a major breakthrough for China in high-end ophthalmic medical devices and novel biomedical materials.
"This lens adopts the original xPIB material. Thanks to the material's superior properties, it features an ultra-large 6.5 mm optical zone and can be implanted through a tiny ocular incision," said Wang.

Combining the large optical zone with an aspheric optical design, the lens effectively addresses common postoperative issues associated with conventional intraocular lenses, including glare, halos, and diplopia at night, delivering more stable and comfortable visual outcomes.
It also offers prominent clinical benefits for patients with chronic conditions, such as diabetes and hypertension. The expanded optical zone preserves ample access for long-term postoperative fundus examinations and interventions for retinal lesions, without imposing restrictions on subsequent posterior segment eye treatments if needed.
For a long time, materials for high-end intraocular lenses have constituted a key bottleneck restricting the development of China's ophthalmic medical device industry.
Specializing in medical polymer materials, Eyedeal is committed to pioneering innovation from the earliest stages of research and development. It has developed a fully independent industrial chain covering special material synthesis, optical design, precision machining, and large-scale mass production, breaking down long-standing technical barriers from overseas and demonstrating the research prowess of the biomedicine and medical device industry in the Xi'an Hi-tech Industries Development Zone.
Wang said that the xPIB aspheric intraocular lens pushes past the performance ceiling of conventional IOL materials and delivers higher-quality and longer-lasting visual security for cataract patients.
Drawing on the robust sci-tech innovation resources of the Xi'an Hi-tech Industries Development Zone, more self-developed high-end medical equipment and devices are expected to enter clinical use in the future, bringing benefits to public health. Scientific and technological innovation will safeguard human ocular health and drive the high-quality development of the medical device industry.
