Qingdao releases Blue Book on Blue Carbon 2026
The Blue Book on Blue Carbon in China 2026 was released on Oct 25 at the Laoshan campus of the Ocean University of China in Qingdao, Shandong province, during a high-quality development conference celebrating the 80th anniversary of the university's marine, fisheries, and geology disciplines.
Edited by Professor Li Jianping and introduced by Professor Dong Yue, the publication addresses the issue of national carbon neutrality goals.
Aligned with China's dual-carbon objectives, the comprehensive report synthesizes recent advancements, practical experiences, and policy demands in ocean carbon sinks and ecological restoration. Spearheaded by the Center for Ocean Carbon Neutrality at Ocean University of China and published by China Ocean University Press, the volume integrates multi-disciplinary expertise from over 100 scholars across more than fifty domestic and international institutions.
Structured into seven distinct chapters, the blue book examines overarching trends, industrial and regional practices, and critical hotspots like digital twins and carbon finance. It further details specialized topics including mangroves, salt marshes, marine algal carbon enhancement, ocean carbon sequestration, and a newly added analysis on iron fertilization.
Additionally, the text evaluates domestic and international policies, legal frameworks, and diverse case studies ranging from marine litter governance to climate investment trials, ultimately offering scientific backing for national strategies and valuable insights for global climate governance.
