Novi Sad Fourth Danube Bridge completes side-span girder
The concrete pouring for the MP5-MA6 side-span cast-in-place box girder of the Novi Sad Fourth Danube Bridge in Serbia was completed on Sept 3 after 9.5 hours of continuous work.
The 77.95-meter widened segment transitions from a four-cell box section to a five-cell box section. Its deck width ranges from 28.9 meters to 35.9 meters, with girder depth between 4.5 meters and 4.59 meters. Featuring a curved bottom slab, the segment is cast with high-strength C60 concrete, totaling 2,939 cubic meters. Multiple prestressing anchor blocks require tight construction tolerances.
The team adopted low-support falsework and a layered, segmented pouring sequence with safety, quality, and environmental controls. Completed over six months, this segment removes construction constraints for balanced cantilever casting with form travelers at the main piers. It enables the launch of the MP0-MP1 side span and parallel main-span works.
The project will proceed with MP0-MP1 side span and cantilever casting to reach main bridge closure.
