Reliable power keeps Weinan’s fields flourishing
On March 16, in Dongwa village, Heyang county, a large-scale grain farmer surnamed Ma watched on with a smile as power supply personnel conducted equipment inspections at the pumping station.
According to Ma, wheat is currently at a critical growth stage and irrigation cannot be interrupted. "You check the lines and equipment in advance, so we can irrigate with peace of mind!" Ma said.
The Weinan branch of State Grid Shaanxi Electric Power has closely aligned with the electricity needs of spring plowing and irrigation, planning ahead, implementing precise measures and providing considerate services. The branch has ensured a reliable power supply to the fields and laid a solid power foundation for rural vitalization through practical actions.
Proactive planning
Heyang is located on an arid plateau, where 34,430 hectares of fertile land depend entirely on an irrigation project. The Weinan branch formulated a special power supply plan at the beginning of the spring plowing season. It placed key facilities, including agricultural irrigation lines and pumping stations, on a priority list. Using a "drone + manual" inspection model, the branch conducted comprehensive "check-ups" on agricultural power lines and distribution equipment in the area to detect and resolve potential hazards early.
In Sufang town, Pucheng county, the Communist Party member service team from the local power branch identified hazards while inspecting the 10kV irrigation line, transformers and field distribution boxes. The team immediately took out tools to fix the issues, tightened bolts and cleared obstructing tree branches, eliminating all hazards within half an hour.
Liu Xiaobin, a major grain farmer, was pleased to see the pump working again and said, "Just as I was about to start irrigation, you solved the problem. The power supply service is so timely!"
To date, the Weinan branch has completed a comprehensive inspection of 591 10 kV agricultural irrigation lines, over 11,000 distribution transformers and more than 30,000 agricultural irrigation wells across the city, eliminating 73 hazards such as equipment aging, loose connections and tree obstacles.
Thoughtful service
To address farmers' new electricity installation and capacity expansion needs during the spring plowing and irrigation period, the Weinan branch has opened a streamlined application process for electricity services, simplifying the process and reducing the time required, allowing farmers to arrange electricity services without leaving home.
When staff member from a power branch in Hancheng, Weinan city, learned that a farmer planned to add a new well during a field inspection, they immediately assessed the farmer's electricity needs, conducted on-site surveys and developed plans, providing comprehensive guidance to minimize farmers' efforts.
In Dafuliu village, Heyang, a Communist Party member service team learned that the irrigation channel serving villager Zhu Donghui's property was blocked by silt and debris, affecting irrigation. The team immediately grabbed shovels, cleared the silt and dredged the waterway, allowing clear water to flow into the wheat fields.
From equipment maintenance and hazard elimination to public awareness campaigns, operational guidance and channel dredging, the Weinan branch has built a "bridge of connection" with farmers. So far, the branch has conducted over 40 special power guarantee activities for spring farming, organized 136 Communist Party member service teams, visited more than 18,000 households and distributed over 10,000 electrical safety manuals.
Activating new momentum
Currently, protected agriculture has become an important pillar for rural income growth, with large clusters of vegetable greenhouses emerging and industries such as hanging watermelons, premium vegetables and specialty seedling cultivation thriving. Modern equipment for shading, temperature control and drip irrigation increasingly depends on electricity.
During the spring plowing season, the Weinan branch has constructed and renovated 47.23 kilometers of power lines rated at 10 kV or below, and installed or upgraded 38 distribution transformers with a capacity of 11,200 kVA, laying a solid power foundation for protected agriculture and special planting centers.
In a vegetable greenhouse in Manyi village, power service team members inspected the line equipment while explaining electrical safety precautions to a grower surnamed Li. "In the greenhouse, the humidity is high, so make sure the sockets are moisture-proof, and don't run wires haphazardly. Call our service number anytime if you have questions!"
Additionally, the branch has deepened the "grid member + farmer" paired service model, providing customized electricity services to major grain farmers and agricultural cooperatives. It has carried out equipment capacity expansion and line renovation according to industrial development needs, meeting electricity needs throughout the agricultural production process and also promoting quality and efficiency in grain production.
