State Grid Shaanxi launches autumn maintenance ahead of winter peak

During this summer's peak-load period, Shaanxi's grid withstood a severe test of high temperatures and heavy power loads as electricity demand in seven cities and districts including Xi'an, Baoji and Weinan hit record highs a combined 17 times.

To tackle the issue, State Grid Shaanxi Electric Power Company put 80 key summer peak-load projects into operation on schedule, marking the successful conclusion of the summer peak response campaign.

To guarantee the safety of the power grid in winter, State Grid Shaanxi Electric Power Company launched its 2026 autumn maintenance campaign on Sept 1. The 76-day campaign is scheduled to run through Nov 15.

Centered on key tasks including the renovation of aging switch cabinets, reconstruction of low-current systems, fire hazard remediation of power transmission and distribution lines in forests and grasslands, anti-icing modification, wind-deflection prevention renovation and line relocation, the company arranged 8,856 operation tasks for power lines of 10 kilovolts and above.

To deliver the autumn maintenance work, the company has fully coordinated operational demands for technical renovation, overhaul and infrastructure support.

It has also tightened safety controls for high-risk work. These cover UHV line crossings and work in deep excavations, at height, on slopes or near live electrical equipment to fully ensure on-site safety.

Coordinating infrastructure, UHV and technical renovation projects, the company has eliminated hidden risks of power equipment and completed annual inspections of lines including the Deyang-Baoji HVDC project to ensure the grid operates reliably through winter.

The company has also improved and refined acceptance criteria for various types of equipment and strengthened quality control over maintenance and acceptance.

Meanwhile, the company presses ahead with key infrastructure projects. It speeds up preparatory work for the launch of the Shaanxi-Henan UHV DC project, steadily advances the construction of the 750 kV Pucheng-Baishui power transmission and transformation project and the 330 kV Chunhua power transmission and transformation project, and promotes power supply projects for the Yan'an-Yulin and Kangding-Chongqing high-speed railways.

It has rolled out the large-scale distribution network construction campaign and continued to deepen the special campaign to accelerate power connection approval under the "one-month earlier commissioning" initiative, enabling customers to access power supply faster and earlier.

During the maintenance period, the company simultaneously carried out key power supply guarantee projects for the winter peak period to strengthen the power grid framework and improve power supply capacity.

It promoted the new construction method of integral translation maintenance for circuit breakers and scaled up the application of new equipment such as mini spider cranes and the "drone plus automatic lifting device" system to boost maintenance efficiency and equipment operation and maintenance capacity.

In terms of people's livelihood, the company adheres to the principle that "no power outage is the best service". It adopts the working principle of "connection first then renovation, power restoration first then emergency repair, power transfer first then maintenance" to maximize stable power supply for customers.

The company now keeps optimizing grid operation modes and closely monitors load fluctuations. For regions affected by disasters, differentiated design standards for emergency restoration equipment are implemented to advance the upgrade of power supply facilities.
