As the winter tourism season kicks into gear, ski enthusiasts from all over the country are flocking to Zhaojin International Ski Resort in Tongchuan, Shaanxi province, to enjoy fresh snowfall.

In preparation for the Spring Festival travel rush, the Zhang Side Communist Party Member Service Team from State Grid Shaanxi Electric Power, led by Lou Zhongzhan and Yang Yingjun, conducted an inspection at the resort on Jan 27. They focused on key power equipment such as snowmakers, cable cars, and conveyor lifts to ensure a safe and stable electricity supply.

Zhaojin International Ski Resort, the largest in Shaanxi, covers 66.7 hectares and features 150,000 square meters of snow-making area. It boasts eight ski slopes, five conveyor lifts, a cable car, lighting, and electric vehicle charging stations. These facilities have increased the electricity demand, presenting a challenge for maintaining a stable power supply. Guided by the principles for building the Communist Party of China, State Grid Shaanxi Electric Power is using the Zhang Side service team to provide "technical strength with warm service", powering the local ice and snow economy.

Empowering with technology: Dual circuits + smart monitoring for uninterrupted supply

Electricity is the backbone of fun on the slopes. Given the power demands and reliability needed by a ski resort, State Grid Tongchuan Power Supply has established a 10-kilovolt dual-circuit power supply system. This setup provides two independent power sources, allowing for instant switching in case of a line failure, ensuring the uninterrupted operation of critical equipment such as snowmakers, cable cars, and lighting systems.

The head of the company's digital monitoring center said: "Our grid's smart monitoring system runs 24/7, delivering real-time data on load and temperature. Through big-data analysis, we can predict issues before they occur, shifting our approach from fixing faults to preventive maintenance."

During peak winter tourism, this integrated model ensures uninterrupted power supply, allowing visitors to enjoy skiing from dawn to dusk.

Round-the-clock safeguards: Day and night patrols + coordinated mechanisms

To combat the effects of icy weather on power lines, the Zhang Side service team has introduced a day-and-night inspection model. Daytime checks focus on high- and low-voltage lines, measuring temperature and load while identifying risks such as ice buildup. At night, they inspect lighting systems for night skiing and lines that supply heating and serve accommodations to ensure reliable overnight power.

Zhang Jun, a service team member, said: "In preparation for the Spring Festival tourism peak, we've increased the frequency of infrared temperature checks and partial discharge tests on power lines and equipment. Using digital monitoring tools, we ensure continuous oversight of major equipment to guarantee flawless supply. We've also established a 24-hour emergency response mechanism with the ski resort, offering free technical guidance and assistance in maintaining internal power systems."

Extended services: Supporting the ice and snow economy beyond the resort

The service team extends its efforts beyond the ski resort, supporting the Zhaojin ice and snow economy. They regularly visit nearby inns, farm-stay businesses, and shops, conducting voluntary inspections of power lines, switches, and heating equipment. So far, they've resolved five safety hazards related to aging and overloaded equipment.

The service team has also distributed 236 leaflets with electric safety tips and convenience-service cards, offering winter-specific energy-saving advice. A "direct request-fast response" channel has also been set up to address electricity issues.

"Before, I worried about power outages from overloaded heating equipment, but now, with regular inspections and energy efficiency tips from the power team, I feel much more at ease running my business," said Wang Aiqin, an inn operator. By providing comprehensive support to the winter tourism industry, the service team ensures that every part of the ice and snow economy is supported.

Party-building leadership: Red heritage inspires service beyond electricity

Recently, team members Yang Yingjun and Jiao Sijie braved the snow to rescue stranded vehicles near the ski resort. Their quick response, armed with a tow rope, exemplified the mission "Serving the People with Electricity", and tied together the team's comprehensive efforts during snow season.

In Zhaojin, a town rich in revolutionary heritage, the service team's DNA is interwoven with such spirit. From urgent nighttime rescues to meticulous power line inspections, from technical innovation to heartfelt services, the Zhang Side service team embodies the enduring spirit of "serving the people".

Amid Zhaojin's snow-covered landscapes, the green spirit of State Grid and the Red genes of Party-building come together in harmony. This dedicated team ensures warm winters for the community and carefree snowplay for visitors, while also powering cultural and tourism development in the region. By fulfilling the promise of "electric power for the people", they create a sense of warmth and unity that extends far beyond the ice and snow season.
