State Grid Weinan improves electrical safety for elderly residents
Despite the rain, State Grid Weinan Power Supply dispatched a service team on September 10 to visit Zhao Dehai, an elderly resident living alone in Laomiao township, Weinan, Shaanxi province.
The team is the Laomiao branch of State Grid Shaanxi Electric Power's Zhang Side Communist Party member service team.
On the previous day, workers of State Grid Weinan Power Supply conducted a regular inspection in Laomiao township and discovered the electrical wiring at Zhao's house had badly deteriorated.
Considering that Zhao lives alone with limited mobility and the rainy days posed additional risks, the company immediately decided to provide on-site services.
After infrared temperature measurement and detailed inspections, Wang Jianjun, a member of the service team, found problems such as damaged insulation on the service entrance line, loose wiring connections at outlets and reduced sensitivity of the residual current protector.
Wang and his colleagues cut off the power, replaced more than 20 meters of aging wiring, tightened six connection points, replaced one residual current device and two switches and applied moisture-proof treatment to the indoor wiring.
They also tested the power supply for household appliances such as the refrigerator and rice cooker, ensuring their normal operation.
State Grid Weinan Power Supply has established a "one-on-one" assistance model for vulnerable residents including widowed and childless elderly people.
The Laomiao branch team has registered 23 households on its list, provided a total of 68 door-to-door inspection services, eliminated 41 potential hazards, and distributed more than 300 copies of electrical safety materials.
Before leaving, Wang held Zhao's hands and said: "The wiring in your home has been replaced, and the residual current device has passed the test. Please guard against moisture on rainy days and never touch sockets with wet hands."
"Call us anytime if you have any electricity-related problems, and we will come whenever you need us," he added.
