Grid connections to spur new infrastructure
In the wake of the April release of Xi'an's five-year layout blueprint (2026-30) for energy storage and high-power charging facilities, State Grid Xi'an Power Supply Company has made detailed arrangements for project grid connections to drive the rapid development of local new energy infrastructure.
Focusing on grid reinforcement and quality service, the company has opened a "fast lane" for energy storage grid connections by optimizing connection procedures and streamlining approvals, while defining the entire process from application to commissioning to ensure projects are implemented and operational as early as possible.
Take the Xixian New Area, where the number of centralized charging stations reached 209 by the end of 2025, as a prime example. Local authorities are planning high-power charging layouts based on grid capacity and regional demand, reserving access capacity in advance to synchronize infrastructure growth with grid development and resolve access and charging difficulties at the source.
In a move to optimize grid performance, the Xixian New Area will bring all high-power charging infrastructure under a centralized dispatch system, using smart platforms to shift charging loads away from peak times, thereby ensuring efficient operations and reliable service for all users.
Next, Xi'an plans to allow charging facilities to take part in electricity market trading, a move designed to lower operating costs and boost efficiency for businesses, ultimately securing the long-term sustainability of high-power charging networks.
