Zhenbeipu Western Film Studio
Zhenbeipu Western Film Studio, located in Yinchuan city, capital of Ningxia Hui autonomous region, was constructed by the Chinese writer Zhang Xianliang (1936-2014). Featuring original and ancient castles, primitive and desolate landscapes, the studio has produced many world-famous films, including Zhang Yimou’s Red Sorghum, which won the first Golden Bear for China in 1988.
Built in 1500, the 13th year of the reign of the Hongzhi Emperor in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), Zhenbeipu functioned as a frontier stronghold to protect China’s borders from nomadic invasion. Today, the studio has become one of the most important tourism destinations in western China, fully integrating sightseeing, entertainment, relaxation, dining and shopping.
