Shandong Port Group (SPG) and Liaoning Port Group (LPG) signed a strategic framework agreement on Sept 23 in the city of Dalian, in Northeast China's Liaoning province on building a series of world-class ports, according to local officials.

They said SPG and LPG are set to further strengthen their joint business endeavors.

The port operators will promote the construction of world-class ports, which will help drive the high-quality development of the Bohai Economic Rim Area, while providing important support for national economic development and the stability of global supply chains, officials added.

Huo Gaoyuan, Party secretary and chairman of the board of SPG and Deng Renjie, deputy general manager of China Merchants Group and chairman of LPG, attended the ceremony and witnessed the signatures.

Li Fengli, deputy Party secretary and general manager of SPG and Zhang Yi, Party secretary and general manager of LPG, respectively signed the agreement on behalf of both parties.

Before the signing ceremony, the port operators held talks on how to take advantage of their geographical proximity to work together in the areas of containers, bulk cargo and roll-on/roll-off cargo.
