The opening ceremony of the second phase of the Dongjiakou crude oil terminal and the liquid chemicals terminal was held at the Dongjiakou port area at Qingdao Port, a subsidiary of Shandong Port Group, or SPG – one of the world's biggest port operators, based in Qingdao city, in East China's Shandong province.

The ceremony was held on Aug 23, as the Panamanian LPG tanker Gas Summit, carrying 50,000 tons of low temperature propane, docked at the new No D24 berth at Dongjiakou port and unloaded smoothly.

Dongjiakou port's inauguration of the two new terminals takes the number of liquid bulk commodity loading and unloading facilities there to four.

The second phase of the Dongjiakou crude oil terminal reportedly consists of a 300,000-metric-tons oil berth and a 100,000-mt oil berth, with annual design capacity of 25.5 million tons.

With the operation of the two new terminals, Dongjiakou port will be able to handle over 55 million tons of oil products annually.

The project is seen as contributing to Qingdao Port's efforts to form a world-class large crude oil terminal cluster, with the Dongjiakou port area and the Huangdao port area as two extensions that have synergies.

It will also promote SPG's building of a distribution base for international crude oil transshipments, making it an international shipping hub in Northeast Asia.
