A cargo ship left the Qingdao automated port terminal in East China's Shandong province for Australia on March 18, marking the official launch of the direct shipping route from Qingdao to Australia.

The direct shipping route is jointly operated by T.S. Lines, Pacific International Lines (PIL), Yangming Marine Transport Corp, and Hailing Shipping, and is a high-speed shipping route connecting China and Australia.

The new route is expected to promote the integration of regional industrial chains and supply chains, optimize the export and import structures, and bring tangible benefits and convenience to regional economic development.

Ports play an important role in promoting regional economic integration. Qingdao Port, a subsidiary of Shandong Port Group, boasts an advantageous geographical location, and is a bridgehead for Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (RCEP) member states to deepen cooperation with each other, and enhance the economic trade between China, Australia, Japan, South Korea, and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.

Qingdao Port has increased its efforts to contribute to the RCEP's economic development and expand its service capability as a regional transshipment hub since the RCEP went into effect this year.
