A cargo ship carrying 41.4 metric tons of fresh vegetables left Qingdao Port, a subsidiary of Shandong Port Group (SPG), for Shanghai International Port Group (SIPG) on April 17 to support Shanghai to win the battle against COVID-19.

The vegetables were donated by SPG, the world's largest port conglomerate in terms of cargo capacity. As a large-scale State-owned enterprise, SPG has shouldered its social responsibilities and given full support to SIPG's fight against COVID-19 during the ongoing and severe epidemic in Shanghai.

SPG and SIPG are important hub ports in China, and both shoulder the great responsibilities of serving national strategies, promoting the high-quality development of the local economy, and stabilizing global industrial and supply chains. The two port groups have forged a deep friendship by deepening cooperation and advancing the coordinated development over the years.

In 2019 and 2020, the two groups signed two strategic cooperation agreements, and agreed to better support major national strategies such as the Belt and Road Initiative, the integration of the Yangtze River Delta region, and the ecological protection and high-quality development of the Yellow River basin. The two sides also worked together to open a direct express line from Shanghai to North America, which has helped keep global industrial and supply chains stable and open.

Shanghai is now at a critical moment in fighting against COVID-19, and SIPG is playing a critical role in helping Shanghai combat the pandemic as well as offering great support to stabilize industrial and supply chains in the Yangtze River Delta region.
