Shandong Port Group or SPG posted outstanding performance during the Mid-Autumn holiday break from Sept 10 to 12, and it also maintained a balance between epidemic prevention and control and port operations in the face of sporadic COVID-19 outbreaks.

The Qingdao Port Container Terminal was bustling with 8,000-twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) and above container ships during the break, and the port handled 21,515 TEUs for the ship MSC SIXIN, hitting a new record high.

Rizhao Port saw its cargo throughput and container volume reach 4.45 million metric tons and 46,000 TEUs, up 1.1 percent and 1.5 percent year-on-year, respectively.

Yantai Port handled 3.22 million tons of cargoes during the holiday break, up 16.2 percent year-on-year, and handled 366 ships, an increase of 67 percent year-on-year.

Bohai Bay Port witnessed its cargo throughput rise 85 percent from the previous year to 250,000 tons, while its container volume rose 2 percent year-on-year to 2,500 TEUs.

Furthermore, SPG also experienced excellent performance in terms of dry bulk cargo operations. At Qingdao Port Dongjiakou Ore Terminal, an efficient production record of 2,650 tons of cargoes per hour was achieved during the handling operations of the 400,000 DWT ore carrier SHANDONG DA DE. The Longkou port area at Yantai Port handled over 10 carriers simultaneously, which were loaded with grain products, general cargo, coal and other bulk goods.

In order to ensure the supply of energy and raw materials for customers in the hinterland, Rizhao Port proactively dealt with truck shortages during the break by making all-out efforts to strengthen the distribution of inbound goods that were unloaded at the port by rail and seaborne transport. The port loaded over 4,000 wagons on a daily basis, and on Sept 11 alone, it loaded 4,383 wagons, a record high since its started operations. It transported 14,000 tons of goods with cargo ships.

SPG staff members worked diligently and painstakingly during the Mid-Autumn Festival, as part of their efforts to wrap up the third quarter and prepare for the fourth quarter.
