Huo Gaoyuan, chairman and Party secretary of Shandong Port Group (SPG), visited Malaysia from Feb 14 to 15 and exchanged views on port development, trade and cooperation with leaders from local institutes including the Port Klang Authority, the China-ASEAN Business Council, the Economic and Commercial Office of the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Malaysia and the China Entrepreneurs Association in Malaysia.

The General Manager of the Port Klang Authority said Port Klang is Malaysia's maritime gateway and the largest port with a vast hinterland and developed industries. "We will continue to strengthen exchanges with the group in fields of automated terminal construction, route network development and highly-skilled personnel training."

Huo said that SPG has focused on constructing world-class ocean ports and building a modern shipping service system. There is broad space for cooperation in areas such as management models, port planning and construction and shipping services.

Lin Yutang, chairman of the China-ASEAN Business Council, said that the cooperation between China and ASEAN has ushered in new opportunities in trade, tourism and investment under the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership.  

Huo said that China and Southeast Asia are highly complementary. SPG will seize the opportunities to transform from a single port operator to a comprehensive supply chain service provider and enhance cooperation with Malaysia in the fields of shipping, trade, cruise tours, culture and tourism.

Zhang Peidong, counselor of the Economic and Commercial Office of the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Malaysia, hoped that the group will strengthen cooperation with Malaysia in port infrastructure, logistics, trade and cross-border e-commerce.
