Members of a delegation from Shandong Port Group (SPG) paid a visit to Vietnam on Feb 21 and 22 during which they exchanged views on green port development and trade and cooperation with leaders from local institutes, aiming to enhance cooperation with Vietnam in the fields of shipping, trade, cruise tours, culture and tourism.

The delegation, led by Huo Gaoyuan, chairman and Party secretary of SPG, visited Saigon Newport Corporation (SNP), the Vietnam Branch of China COSCO Shipping, and the Chinese consulate general in Ho Chi Minh City.

Huo exchanged views with Ngo Minh Thuan, general manager of SNP, on smart and green port construction, port management, automated terminal construction, and port transformation and development.

Saigon Port, situated in Ho Chi Minh City, is the largest port in southern Vietnam, and its share of the import and export container market accounts for more than 50 percent of the country's total, according to Ngo. He expressed his hope that SNP and SPG will strengthen exchanges in the construction of smart and green ports, intelligent transformation of traditional container terminals, and staff communication and training.

Huo said that SPG is the largest port enterprise in northern China, and its cargo throughput has ranked first in the world. The port group has focused on constructing world-class ocean ports and building a modern shipping service system.

Wei Huaxiang, the Chinese consul in Ho Chi Minh City, introduced the economic and trade situation of Vietnam, and spoke highly of SPG's contributions in serving national development strategies such as the Belt and Road Initiative.
