The first new energy vehicle (NEV) container train developed by Shandong Port Logistics Group (SPLG) departed from Qingdao, Shandong province on March 25, marking a new route for NEV exports.

In recent years, the global NEV industry has witnessed rapid growth, and China's NEV exports continue to increase. According to a relevant policy, China plans to encourage the development of the new energy commodity auto railway transportation business and ensure the safe and smooth transportation of the new energy commodity auto railway.

Faced with the broad development prospects of the NEV and railway transportation business, SPLG's multimodal transportation center in conjunction with other enterprises have customized a one-stop service plan for NEV enterprises to export containers based on the transportation needs of inland NEV enterprises. This allows the enterprises' customers to complete a series of processes such as customs inspections and packaging NEVs at Qingdao China Railway Union Central Station, and transfer them to Huangdao Port Station through the rapid cycle train for shipment.

This model comprehensively integrates multiple links that include vehicle transportation, stockpiling, port collection, inspection, packaging, and shipping to achieve a seamless connection between ground, rail, and sea shipments. It is expected to save customers 21 percent on logistics costs, reduce transportation time by 14 percent, and open up a greener, more efficient, and lower cost new channel for NEV exports.
