Wilhelmshaven is Germany's only deep water port and is situated between the rivers Ems and Weser, on the western banks of the Jade delta. The port consists of two sections: the outer deep water port with its characteristic transshipment bridges, and the inner port, independent from the tides and located behind a dual chamber sea lock.

The port is equipped with modern quay facilities for the transshipment of bulk cargo, containers, refrigerated cargo, food, general cargo and project necessities.

The benefits of this port location are also enjoyed by the Container Terminal Wilhelmshaven at the Jade-Weser-Port, Germany's only deep water terminal for the next generations of large-scale container vessels.

Wilhelmshaven is a central transshipment location for crude oil, petroleum products, coal and chemical products. With its two local coal fired power plants and modern train loading facilities, it is a central coal transshipment hub for the entire German market. The port makes a key contribution towards ensuring secure energy supply in Germany.
