A groundbreaking ceremony was held on Dec 12 at Binzhou Port in Bohai Bay, managed by Shandong Port Group, for the construction of a 36.5-kilometer navigation channel and a 17.6-kilometer wave-blocking sand dike.

The project aims to enhance the port's capacity to accommodate 50,000-tonnage vessels and has an estimated investment of 4.73 billion yuan ($665.95 million).

It will improve the port's layout, enhance its transportation capacity, and optimize its navigation services. Additionally, it will contribute to the development of Binzhou Port as a hub for industry and trade.

Binzhou is located on the south bank of Bohai Bay and within the Yellow River Delta. Being part of Shandong Port Group, it is close to the provincial economic circle.

In 2022, Binzhou Port's throughput reached a whopping 9.50 million metric tons, representing a year-on-year growth of 10.4 percent.

Furthermore, this year, all eight berths at Binzhou Port have been made accessible to international trade.
