The municipal government of Yiwu and Zhejiang University agreed to work together to build a Belt and Road international school of medicine on Oct 25. 

According to the agreement, the school, which will be located in Shuangjianghu Science and Education Park, will implement an international system for medical education and build several national first-class hospitals to serve the Belt and Road Initiative and facilitate the integration of the Yangtze River Delta region. 

"Zhejiang University will do all it can do ensure construction goes smoothly,” according to Ren Shaobo, Party secretary of Zhejiang University. 

"The agreement between Yiwu and Zhejiang University has opened a new page in the history of city-university collaborations," said Lin Yi, Party secretary of Yiwu.

"As a transportation hub for the Belt and Road, Yiwu will make full use of its international trade resources and high-quality services to support the new school," Lin continued.

Collaboration between Yiwu and Zhejiang University dates back to the 1980s and has been quickly expanding ever since a strategic cooperation agreement was signed in 2009.
