The Putuo Rural Commercial Bank Cup 2019 Zhoushan Islands Marathon kicked off in Putuo district, Zhoushan, Zhejiang province on Nov 17, attracting 13,254 participants from home and abroad.
After over two hours of competition, Kenyan runners Ahraham Kipkirong Chirchir and Chenangatsalome claimed the men's and women's titles, finishing in 2 hours 20 minutes 14 seconds and 2 hours 56 minutes 55 seconds, respectively.
Kenyan participants Maruka Linus Nabuswa and Jelagat Lilian won the men's and women's half marathons, finishing in 1 hour 4 minutes 20 seconds and 1 hour 14 minutes 49 seconds, respectively.
"Zhoushan has beautiful scenery, nice weather, and a great location, making it ideal for marathons," said Cao Hong, director of the local department of culture, radio, tourism and sports.
Statistics show that over the five years since the event was launched, more than half of the participants have come from outside the city.
An outdoor ocean sports industries expo was concurrently held in the district to display some of the advanced sports equipment.
