Fengnan village, Jiashan county, Jiaxing, East China's Zhejiang province, has been booming in recent years thanks to its advantageous geographic location, Jiaxing Daily reported.

The village is just across the river from Fengjing town in Shanghai and is also adjacent to the Jiashan Economic Development Zone.

Fengnan villagers used to make a living by farming poultry, which brought in a meager income and polluted the environment.

"At that time, the village always stank," said Sheng Lixia, Party secretary of Fengnan village.

However, from 2010 to 2012, the village began managing its rivers better, relocated locals to centralized communities, and stopped farming poultry.

Luckily, many people who work in Fengjing or the Jiashan Economic Development Zone rent houses in Fengnan due to its low cost of living. Therefore, many villagers make rental incomes.

In addition, senior villagers are entitled to 2,000 yuan in ($286.72) pensions from the village committee every month, according to Sheng.

Due to the integration of the Yangtze River Delta region, the village has also managed to attract many investors, allowing it to renovate old areas and establish industrial parks.

Statistics show that in 2016, the collective income of Fengnan reached 4.3 million yuan, while the per capita income totaled 26,800 yuan. In 2019, the collective income had grown to 7.8 million yuan and the per capita income rose to 32,860 yuan.

Fengnan has also been listed as a Zhejiang pilot area for future community construction, noted Sheng, who was optimistic about the development of Fengnan village in the near future.
