Zhejiang took third place among China's 31 provincial-level regions with 27,039 yuan ($3,875) in per capita disposable income in the first half of 2020, following Shanghai (36,577 yuan) and Beijing (34,573 yuan) municipalities, according to the latest data from the National Bureau of Statistics.

Statistics also show that the per capita consumption expenditure among Zhejiang residents stood at 15,029 yuan in H1, the third highest among the country's 31 provincial-level regions, behind only Shanghai (20,112 yuan) and Beijing (18,620 yuan).

In other words, Zhejiang residents boasted both the highest per capita disposable income and the highest per capita consumption expenditure among all Chinese provinces during the first half of this year.

Per capita disposable income among all Chinese citizens in H1 was 15,666 yuan, while per capita consumption expenditure was 9,718 yuan.

Consumption expenditures include all spending on goods and services needed to meet the demands of daily life. Although traditional forms of consumption such as dining and watching films declined amid the COVID-19 epidemic in H1, consumption in emerging industries such as online shopping and distance education increased.

According to the Zhejiang provincial department of commerce, online consumption among Zhejiang residents stood at 451.89 billion yuan in H1, up 9.8 percent from the previous year.
