Bamboo forests become new growth pole for farmers' incomes

(chinadaily.com.cn) Updated : 2020-07-31

Yangtouzhai village in Qingyuan county, Lishui, East China's Zhejiang province, has 200 hectares of bamboo forest and is currently building a bamboo processing facility.

The facility will be the only one in eastern Qingyuan, and is expected to process material from more than 4,000 hectares of bamboo forests in surrounding areas.

Qingyuan county has a total bamboo forest area of about 28,000 hectares. But most of the bamboo forests are scattered among remote mountain villages, which makes it difficult for the local bamboo industry to develop properly.

The county has built several bamboo processing facilities, which have solved difficulties in producing, processing and sales of bamboo in Qingyuan, and greatly improved farmers' incomes.
